A lot of questions are being asked about the lates funding rules and what it means for employers.
For clarity, on the new apprenticeship rules for 16-24 year olds: the government has introduced a new funding rule for apprenticeships, that 100% of the training and assessment costs of eligible 16 to 24 year old apprentices will be government funded.
What does this mean for levy-paying employers?
They will not have to pay the 25% co-investment contribution for eligible new apprentice starts aged 16 to 24 once their levy funds have been exhausted.
What does this mean for all organisations?
The funding applies to eligible new apprenticeship starts from 1 August 2026 across the wider Growth and Skills Levy offer.
This means that all eligible under 25-year-olds will be fully funded for every employer, large and small.
This is an excellent opportunity for employers to recruit and develop younger their talent while reducing apprenticeship training costs. A perfect time to consider new roles that can be introduced into their organisation and take advantage of the wider apprenticeship opportunities that are now available.
